Making the Grade with Audio Books

Heartland Elementary School

Books on compact discs and cassettes were purchased for an elementary school’s library collection in order to increase comprehension, fluency and the love of reading for all the students who use these materials.

Educational compact discs, videos, and books were purchased to outfit a resource center for the use of students, parents, and teachers at Friendship Station.

Four new cameras were purchased for the high school yearbook staff to replace outdated and broken cameras.

Computer Controlled Engraving Machine

Money was given to help purchase an engraving machine which will enable seventh grade students to use technology to create engraved brass plates for their finished wood projects.

Fusion Writer Programs

Mill Creek and Heartland Elementary Schools

Ten assistive technology learning programs for two elementary schools were purchased to enhance the ability of students with fine motor, writing, or spelling difficulties to complete classroom assignments independently or with minimal help.
Six Portable Document Cameras

Harrison Street School

Six portable document cameras were bought to allow teachers the opportunity to present crisp, clear, detailed images through the LCD projectors which are mounted from classroom ceilings.

Large Format Color Printer

Mill Creek Elementary School

Money was given to help pay for a large format color printer for teachers to create large graphic organizers and other classroom posters which depict specific reading, writing, and math strategies. Students will be able to refer to these posters and transfer this knowledge into their long-term memories.

Kurzweil 3000 Assistive Reading System

Geneva Middle School South

Money was given to help pay for Kurzweil Education Software, which uses a multi-sensory approach to help students with learning and reading difficulties.

Student Monitoring Timers

Programmable devices were bought to help teach students who have attention problems to self-regulate their time on task and thus successfully and independently complete assignments

Walk Geneva Pedometers

Geneva High School

Money was given to help pay for a class set of pedometers to help high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors become more physically fit while learning how this fitness technology can be used for their entire lives.

Scholastic Bookflix Literacy Program

Williamsburg Elementary School

This on-line multimedia literacy subscription which pairs fictional video storybooks with non-fiction eBooks was bought for an elementary school in order to increase the love of reading, reinforce reading skills and develop essential real-world knowledge and understanding for children at school and at home.

Classroom Performance System Sets

Geneva Middle School North

Two Classroom Performance Sets (CPS Units) were bought to be used in social studies and science classrooms by 8th graders to improve classroom learning. These devices allow all students to use technology to answer questions while providing instant student feedback to teachers.
Book Browsers For Classrooms

Western Avenue School

Four book browsers were bought for third grade classroom libraries. These book browsers not only display many books and reading materials attractively, but also prolong the life of the books, and make it easier for all students to readily obtain reading materials during the daily 90 minute literacy block.

Hanging Microphones for Cafetorium Stage

Hanging microphones were purchased to provide better and more consistent sound quality during assemblies and student drama and music productions.

Enhancing Math Instruction Via Technology

Three multimedia carts each loaded with an LCD projector, a speaker system, a desktop computer loaded with SmartView Software, and a LCD monitor were purchased to allow mathematics teachers the necessary technology tools to incorporate varied instructional strategies for their students in a classroom setting.

Four multimedia projectors and DVD/VHS players were bought to enable students and teachers to access the new technology programs which come with their textbooks within their classrooms.

PRIDE (Proud Retired Individuals Dedicated to Education) PRIDE

Money was given to help pay for mailings, programs, orientation supplies, and recognition materials for PRIDE volunteers who work with children in our district’s schools.

Muggins Math “Aerobics for the Mind” games and Versa-Tiles Math and Language Arts Kits were purchased to be used by students in elementary and middle school classrooms to enhance their thinking skills.

Outdoor Environmental Educational Garden

Heartland Elementary School

Money was given to help to begin to plan, develop, and install an outdoor environmental learning garden at this elementary school.

Ken-A-Vision Network Memory Scope

Geneva Middle School North

A microscope was purchased to enable students to see magnification of objects up to 1,000 times and to provide network capabilities to share what is seen between classrooms.

Moliere Than Thou

Geneva High School

Money was given to pay for the one-man play “Moliere Than Thou” which is based on excerpts from a variety of Moliere’s plays. All high school French students will be able to experience this outstanding performance in the auditorium at the high school.

Portable Presentation Cameras

Mill Creek Elementary School

Two portable presentation cameras were purchased which will allow teachers and visiting speakers to project crisp, sharp, large images of books, documents, photographs, and objects through the ceiling mounted LCD projectors onto wall-mounted screens.

Viking Ship Program & Visit From Robert Shetterly

Geneva History Center

Money was given to the Geneva History Center to help fund two educational programs which were developed for students in our district’s schools. Educational materials were bought for the program, “Viking Voyage of Discovery”. Also, the one-day fee for the artist who created the portraits for the exhibit, “Americans Who Tell The Truth”, will be paid so that he can speak to the students in our schools.
